v5.3

TrustShop 5.3: Put Your Reviews on Any Site with Script Embed

Some merchants run Shopify for the back office and something else entirely for the storefront. Version 5.3 stops that being a dead end.

New

  • Script embed — a plain script snippet that renders TrustShop widgets on any site, not just a Shopify storefront. If your front end is Framer, WordPress or custom, your reviews can now live there.
  • Sync Now for Google Maps reviews — instead of waiting for the daily auto-sync, pull new Google reviews across immediately. Duplicates are skipped.

Improved

  • Add-to-cart from widgets now follows Shopify’s standard theme actions, so it behaves correctly across more themes.
  • Review thumbnails in the admin fit their card properly.
  • The verified badge preview in global settings now matches what actually renders on the storefront.

TrustShop 5.2: Product Management, and the Groundwork for UGC

New

  • Product management page — a real products table inside TrustShop, so you can see and manage review coverage product by product instead of hunting through settings.
  • Better product picker — filter by live product attributes when choosing which products a widget or campaign applies to, and sort by live Q&A count to find the products customers are actually asking about.
  • AI summary block with review labels — see what reviews are saying about a product at a glance.
  • Sync reviews now — pull reviews across immediately instead of waiting for the scheduled sync.
  • UGC groundwork — the first pieces of the UGC module landed here: Instagram connection, review-linked media sync, and the media pipeline behind it. The merchant-facing launch followed in 5.3.

Improved

  • Product detail now exposes the product URL, featured image, and a count of removable duplicate reviews.
  • Widget previews and attributes now match what actually renders on the storefront.
  • The review detail page is responsive, and the media list layout was tidied up.

Fixed

  • Bundle review inheritance now respects the merchant enable toggle.
  • Deleted products are filtered out of listings, and product bundle sync no longer breaks on an empty Shopify response.
  • Pricing display corrections.

v5.0

TrustShop 5.0: From Reviews App to Trust & Growth Suite

Reviews remain what TrustShop does best. Version 5.0 restructured the app so they no longer have to be the only thing it does.

New

  • Growth Tools page — a new home for the tools coming beyond reviews: UGC, surveys, referrals and upsells. You can join the waitlist for the suite from inside the app.
  • Rebuilt app UI — navigation, content and dashboard layout were reworked to hold more than reviews. Reviews and Store Reviews stay the core; the new structure makes room for what follows.
  • WaSend integration — connect your WhatsApp marketing app and enrich review requests with trigger delays and tracking providers.

Improved

  • Better in-app search — faster and more relevant search across settings, widgets and reviews.
  • Cleaner settings — the Settings UI was tidied up, and legacy modals were replaced with a single unified fullscreen experience.
  • Questions & Answers is now gated by plan feature flag.

Fixed

  • Infinite loading states during onboarding.
  • Fullscreen save bar issues.
  • Handling for older stores without a subdomain.
  • Auth hardening: inactive and legacy shops now fail cleanly instead of hanging.

If you use TrustShop only for product reviews, nothing you rely on has moved out of reach — the layout around it changed.

v4.8

TrustShop 4.8: Built for Shopify

Version 4.8 was the Built for Shopify release — meeting Shopify’s standards for admin behaviour, performance and merchant clarity.

New

  • Deleted reviews are recoverable — reviews are now soft-deleted instead of being removed outright, so an accidental delete no longer means the review is gone.
  • Widget install preview — see the installation state of your widgets for your shop, instead of walking the theme editor page by page.
  • Feature filter on review lists — filter product and store review listings by feature.

Improved

  • Richer rich snippets — review schema markup gained a content field, with a backfill for existing stores, so star ratings show up more reliably in Google Search and Shopping.
  • More resilient metafield sync — when a Shopify owner no longer exists, the rest of the batch is salvaged instead of the whole push failing. Review dates are now included in the metafield payload.
  • Blocked products handled consistently — blocked products are excluded across every review collection surface.
  • Media gallery navigation — go back to the full media list from a single image instead of closing and reopening.
  • Plan limits redesigned — the upgrade prompts in widget customisation were rebuilt to follow Built for Shopify requirements.
  • Store logo sizing and review gallery image radius were adjusted, and store reviews got a “learn more”.

Fixed

  • Deleting a single review works correctly.
  • Missing review detail in the report summary view.
  • Carousel preview: swiper button visibility and item layout.
  • Theme 1.0 widget review embed code, and the store review form setting is no longer blocked.

v4.6

TrustShop 4.6: Your Brand Colours Everywhere, and a Much Faster Storefront

New

  • Brand colours across every widget — colour resolution is now centralised, so the brand colour you pick during onboarding propagates to all widgets automatically. Light and dark mode defaults were fixed at the same time.
  • Widget install detection — TrustShop now detects popup and sidebar widget installs inside nested theme blocks, so the app knows what is actually live on your storefront.
  • Rebuilt onboarding — setup was reduced to a single screen (brand colour and star style), with a new modal detail and all-media preview, and a layout that works on mobile.

Improved

  • Noticeably faster — new performance indexes and an optimised metafield query, plus a hot-path rewrite of premium widget resolution with shared caching. Widget-heavy product pages benefit most.
  • Swipeable review snippets on mobile — swipe instead of hunting for arrows.
  • Email template editor — the save bar now tracks state correctly, and the preview height and scrolling were fixed.
  • Active widget stays in sync — the widget you are editing is persisted, so the editor and storefront no longer drift apart.
  • Clearer plan limits — customise settings use in-context soft locks instead of a banner, so it is obvious which specific option needs an upgrade.
  • Better empty states — the no-review experience got a proper empty state, sensible default filters, and full translation coverage.
  • Upgraded to Shopify GraphQL API 2025-07.

Fixed

  • Carousel “more text” colour, Article slide swipe, modal display on mobile, and a Firefox re-render bug.
  • A cache poisoning issue affecting widget defaults and QR code status.
  • Several soft-lock flow bugs, and a stop-offer-campaign fix.

v4.0

TrustShop 4.0: Review Request Emails, Rebuilt End to End

Review request emails are where most reviews come from. Version 4.0 rebuilt them.

New

  • New email templates plus a test email view, so you can send yourself a real message before it goes to customers.
  • Background processing for review metafields — metafield pushes now run in the background instead of blocking, which makes them far more reliable on large catalogues.

Improved

  • Deeper personalisation — billing fields, order IDs and variant tracking are now available in emails and review flows, so a customer who bought the blue variant is asked about the blue variant.
  • Richer product blocks — review emails and the write-review modal now show product lists, clearer calls to action, and an improved rating control.
  • Configurable email footer — social icons and attribution can be adjusted per store.

Style

  • Refreshed email copy, header visuals and colours, and a tidier review form layout.

v3.2

TrustShop 3.2: Let AI Help Customers Write Their Review

The hardest part of leaving a review is the empty text box. Version 3.2 removes it.

What changed

  • AI-generated review content — when a customer picks one of the suggested review titles, TrustShop drafts review text that matches their star rating, the title they chose, and the product itself. The customer can edit anything before submitting, and the draft comes back in the same language as the title. Available on the AI Power plan.
  • Collect Reviews reorganised — the collection settings were regrouped so request emails, QR codes and manual imports sit together.
  • Fixed — stores that had every campaign email marked as default now have exactly one default per trigger, so the right template gets sent.

v2.9

TrustShop 2.9: Testimonial Widget and a Redesigned Dashboard

Version 2.9 focused on the two things merchants look at most: the widgets shoppers see, and the dashboard you land on every morning.

What changed

  • Testimonial widget — a new widget for showcasing hand-picked customer quotes, separate from the standard review list.
  • Star Rating widget rebuilt — cleaner markup and more consistent rendering across themes.
  • Redesigned dashboard — the main dashboard page was reorganised around the metrics merchants check first.
  • Discount code on storefront reviews — customers who write a review directly from your storefront now receive their discount code by email, the same way they do from an email request.
  • Carousel display options — show product information, customer country flag, and review date on carousel cards.
  • Updated to meet the February 2025 Built for Shopify requirements.

2023–2024: Building the Core

Between launching in November 2023 and the end of 2024, TrustShop grew from an MVP into a working product. Versions 1.x through 2.5 shipped across this period.

We were not writing release notes at the time. The team was small, there was a lot to build, and publishing notes did not make the cut. This was the stretch where the core of the app was built: collecting and moderating reviews, getting them onto the storefront through the widgets, and the plan structure TrustShop still runs on today.

Rather than reconstruct each of those releases after the fact, we would rather be straight with you: detailed, version-by-version notes start with version 2.6 in January 2025. What came before is summarised here.

TrustShop launches on the Shopify App Store

TrustShop went live on the Shopify App Store on 15 November 2023.

The first release was deliberately small — an MVP built around a single job: let a Shopify merchant collect product reviews from real customers, and show those reviews on the storefront where they influence a purchase. That was the whole product.

Everything else in this changelog was built on top of it.
